Triggers
We feel that for most hunting rifles the factory trigger will do fine once it is worked on. With most of them we can obtain a 2-1/2 pound trigger pull. The prime consideration with the factory triggers is, of course, safety. One of the best factory triggers is the one on a Browning A-Bolt. We can often get them down to 1-1/2 pounds.
We use quite a few Jewell and Shilen triggers. Jewell makes triggers for the Remington 700 and the Winchester M-70. They have a good many options with weights varying from 2 ounces to 3 pounds. Shilen makes two very good triggers. One of them is a hunting weight that can be adjusted down to 1-1/2 lbs. The other is a competition trigger that can be adjusted from 2-6 ounces.
On Ruger #1s we use the Kepplinger single-set trigger as a replacement for the factory trigger for varmint rifles. We use the Moyer trigger for big game rifles. Both of these are top quality and well worth having. The Ruger #1 factory trigger can be re-worked for a very nice weight of pull.
