Ammunition

We are often asked if it is absolutely necessary to handload for our rifles. We feel that to get the full potential out of one of our rifles handloading is best. However, with all of the ammunition available now, you won’t be at a terrible disadvantage if you choose factory ammo. There are lots of choices for the most popular cartridges. I looked in the catalog of one of my suppliers and counted some of the loads. There were, for example, 37 loads for .270 Win. 33 loads for  7mm Rem. Mag., 27 loads for a .300 Win. Mag., 53 loads for a .30-06. There is just a tremendous variety to choose from. All of the major manufacturers are now loading ammo with premium bullets from Nosler, Sierra, Barnes, and others. I have seen many groups under 3/4” at 100 yards with factory ammo. Some groups are even less than 1/2”. The ammo from Federal, Winchester, Remington, and Hornady is first-rate. If you are not a handloader, or if you lose your ammo on a trip, you can rely on the premium brands of ammo to see you through.
