Actions

This is the heart of any rifle.  It is the mechanism that controls the feeding, and firing of the cartridge, and the ejection of the spent case. It consists of the action body, bolt and firing pin, trigger, magazine box, and trigger guard.  If you use junk here then you’ll end up with an inferior rifle. There are quite a few well-built commercially available actions that will work well as the starting point for a custom rifle. In my opinion, the best commercially available actions are the Remington 700s and the Winchester M-70 Classics. We do also work with Sakos, M-98 Mausers, Ruger 77s, Ruger #1s, and Browning A-Bolts. They are all good strong actions and will provide good service.

We also work with custom actions such as the Stolle, Hall, Nesika Bay, McBros, Dakota, and others. These are all great actions and work well for varmint rifles. I do not recommend the use of these actions for a serious big game rifle. If you are on a big hunt and something goes wrong on your action then you are in trouble with a custom action. If you have a factory action, you might be able to go to a local gunsmith and get your extractor, trigger, or some other part replaced. Very few local gunsmiths, or even custom gunsmiths, are going to have parts for a custom action.

Due to Federal Excise Taxes, the customer must supply us with an action to build his rifle on. This avoids an 11% tax on the total of a custom rifle and will save the customer several hundred dollars.

We reserve the right to reject any action that we feel is mechanically unsuitable or unsafe. Also, if there are any parts that are unserviceable, the customer will be charged for their replacement.
